Firstly I would like to say that the staff and food were amazing at the Art House and Shankleys, the room however was not as great.
When we booked through groupon we were offered an executive double room with hot tub, prosecco and 2 course dinner.
The room slept 6 people which I thought was a bit excessive for a couple.
It was a very quirky decor but the room needed some much needed tlc.
The 'leather' panelled walls were coming away from the wall itself, the floorboards were lifting, the fridge was on but running at 22 degrees so we couldn't really make use of the mini bar.
The black tiles in the bathroom hadn't been cleaned as there were hand prints all over them.
This would be a 5 star review based on staff and food but unfortunately the tatty room let the hotel down

Lovely room, but this was across the road and it was a Thursday night so would be more people on a weekend. Also walls and ceilings are 'thin' so can here everything.
Perfect for hen or stag doo's as bars and clubs on your doorstep but if you want a quiet night wrong area. Shame because the staff and room were great.
Stayed in Thursday evening in the Mary Poppins room. It sleeps up to 6 even though there was only 2 of us. Room was lovely and warm and the decor was ace and fun. Clean also.
The sound proofing is none exsistant unfortunately so could hear every single footstep above us. Thank goodness isn't wasn't a weekend or a party in the room above as that would of been a nightmare.
There was numerous clubs and bars right out side the window so if you're wanting a quieter room maybe consider than when requesting a room. As it is mental from about 9pm onwards till the early hours.
The bed..... Well it was horrendous. Worst night sleep I've had in a long time. Beyond uncomfortable but couldn't move beds as the only other double was near the window and the noise would of kept me awake.
The only saving grace about this room was the bath!! Wow. It was amazing!!! Double whirlpool bath that didn't take long to fill and was just amazing. Shame the Bluetooth in the room didn't work as that would of made the bath that little bit better.
The reception staff and cleaning staff that we had contact with were lovely and really friendly. An asset to the chain.
We had no hot water day 1 . Brick wall in the shower had black stuff on the brick wall . Room for six had one very dimly lit mirror . House keeping came left an eye lash on the floor. However didn't take our coffee cups or bring us more milk for our second morning. The other mirror in the bathroom was in a wall recess so you could stand in the bath to put make up on if you want . The hand soap was in an old moisturiser bottle
