Its such a shame, as this is a beautiful building. Its just not been kept up, some of the furniture was broken in the room.
On the plus clean towels and linen slept great.
The location is perfect just across the road from bars and restaurants. This is quite a grand old hotel although the rooms are in need of a facelift ours was clean i think the place has a certain character about I've stayed here a few times would stay again
This place is unequivocally the worst hotel I have ever in the last decade, as a hotel manager had the displeasure of visiting. I attended for 10 days and on each day the public lavatories had not been serviced. I did of course, mention it to a manager at reception who was very dismissive of the feedback, he said that the housekeeping department had cut back on staffing levels due to the pandemic, however considering that this hotel only is able to remain open though out lockdown, as accommodation for key workers, one would expect a higher level of hygiene. Very disappointing experience indeed. This once was the hotel of high society... How standards have dropped.
After seeing the reviews was dreading it... But the room was spotlessly clean, bedding clean... Is very dated and the corridors made me think of redrum from the shining was half expecting someone to come round the corner on a tricycle! Anyway was pleasantly surprised with the room very clean… very warm.
We checked in and left within 20 minutes. The dirtiest hotel I think I’ve ever been in (and there’s been some contenders). Blood stains in the sink, mold and burn marks on the carpet, windows wouldn’t close, lights didn’t work and the bed sheets were covered in dust/dirt.
Assume it happens all the time as the front desk seemed completely unphased.
It’s a big beautiful building that needs a couple million to make it habitable again
