Beautiful grounds and rooms. Breakfast was perfect for a quiet start to the day. You're in the middle of the city but feel like you're in a remote destination. The staff was amazing from start to finish. Can't wait to stay again.
I don't often write reviews but after our visit at Les Suites I felt obliged to do so:
After we first discovered the Portobay hotel chain in Lisbon 3 years ago, we've been revisiting their hotels in Portugal every year (sometimes even multiple times a year). We're a fan of the boutique feeling, the attention to detail and their eye for quality products, decoration, food,... but most importantly the top notch service and the kindness of the staff. Combine this with the kindness of Portuguese people in general, their excellent clean & pure kitchen plus their great wines and you have an ideal holiday.
Reason I'm writing this review is because the quality of a stay at Portobay was great at any hotel we've staid at, but this stay was beyond excellent. The rooms, the decoration, the swimming pool(s), bars, breakfast, Avista restaurant were all excellent and also great to have in your hotel when you're somewhat of a foodie. But what made this stay impeccable for us was the level of quality service, kindness and attention of all the staff. This is what transformed our holiday from an average lazy, luxury holiday to what we consider the best hotel experience we've ever had.
A sincere thank you to all of the staff. We'll definitely revisit next year, this time with a group of friends.

The hotel is very beautiful. There is parking. The breakfasts are delicious here. There is a terrace with a bar and an excellent view. Hotel employees adhere to all safety standards. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. I recommend it to everyone - you will not regret it.
Beautiful hotel placed in a quiet rural area with amazing views of the ocean, the banana plantation and the villages. I love this place. It has a small farm with live chickens- A rooster and a hen. Crops growing. A natural feeling spot. There’s a swimming pool with a heated jacuzzi which can be used at anytime of the day. Great customer experience. Lovely staff with a touch of warmth and hospitality. This is a great hotel to stay and at a good price too. Highly recommended!
Lovely estate on top of the city of Funchal with well maintained gardens with old trees and lots of flowers. The room was big and airy, well maintained and clean, with a big bathroom and views of the garden.
Breakfast was wonderful with fresh orange juice, fresh bread and croissants, homemade jams, cheese cold meats and ricotta. We also had scrambled eggs and a big bowl of porridge. Would recommend this place to anyone
Great service, food, facilities and a beautiful garden! It's situated in a lovely hill overlooking the fluorescent city of Funchal. They serve great meals with a good adult menu and a great kids menu as well. We spent a lot of time by the pool and walked around the garden for hours! Highly recommended from me and my family!
Very nice hotel in monte. Your room have an view over funchal and the sea. The spa (free access) has a sauna, hammam (and jacuzzi but closed due to Covid-19). The hotel has also an outdoor pool (chilly in this time of year).
The breakfast was excellent and the staff very friendly.
The Vila Lusitânia has just undergone a major renovation. However, I am not sure whether the guesthouse on the hillside of the capital Funchal would have needed that at all. Everything is immaculately clean and well maintained. The terrace always looked like it was freshly polished and although there were plants everywhere, not a bit of greenery floated in the pool. Our room was perfectly big enough for two people and had a balcony with a sea view. All of this (if required, breakfast for 6.00 EUR) and an incredibly friendly service are available for an incomparably low price.
We stayed at the hotel for 7 nights. And I can only say good things about this hotel. If you’re planning to visit Madeira, I’d highly recommend to stay close to Funchal. This hotel has a very good location. There are plenty of restaurants and small supermarket. The town of Funchal can be reach by walk from the hotel ~ 10 minutes.

Quinta Belo Sao Tiago is an old style, elegant hotel located in a quiet area of Funchal. It features an outdoor heated pool surrounded by tropical gardens, and the balcony from the lobby has an absolutely incredible view. It is also a short walk away from right the middle of the center. Last, you can enjoy relaxing massage treatments, a hot tub, Turkish bath and a sauna at the wellness centre. For the gym junkies (like me) there’s a fitness centre available. Honestly, a stroll in the tropical gardens, followed by a dip in the pool is a perfect end to the day! Breakfast is quite lovely too.
Stayed there twice, very special Hotel with amazing gardens & views. Breakfast is a banquet of hot & cold food. Best range of fresh fruit, breads, cereals & cooked food, served in a Lovely garden room, with stunning views, down to the sea.
