Food was OK. Slightly overpriced for what it was, and for the area. The service staff were oddly impressed with themselves. There are better options in the vicinity.
Beautiful place, great food and decent service!
My experience at Médousa was above average until I tried to pay for dinner. I am originally from Australia, and I’m currently in Taormina, Sicily with my Italian boyfriend and his father. The three of us went for dinner and I thought I’d try to do a nice thing by paying for dinner. I knew if I asked for the bill, my boyfriend’s father wouldn’t let me pay so I went up to the counter to ask our waiter if I could pay there to avoid this from happening. He then said he would bring the bill to the table and when I requested I pay there, he insisted he bring the bill to the table as he wouldn’t want to “get in trouble” and that it was the “Italian way”. I was a bit confused and embarrassed as he wouldn’t let me pay without giving my boyfriend’s father the opportunity to do so first. Obviously he ended up paying, and I left the restaurant feeling more than unsatisfied.
I have worked in customer service for more than 10 years and I know that good customer service is listening to what your customer wants/needs, not what you think they want/need. Here I was, telling our waiter that I wanted to pay, but instead he chose to assume that my boyfriend’s father wouldn’t want this, just because he’s Italian. When in reality, I knew that he would’ve told me that I shouldn’t have paid but then appreciated the nice gesture.
We live in the 21st century, and as a woman, I shouldn’t have to beg to pay for a meal.
A really lovely place, the terrace is like a dream. It's really clean, the food is good quality but on the expensive side. We where almost the only ones sitting there so maybe that is why the service was a bit on the pushy. We had to say sorry for not taking dessert and that is not a pleasant feeling. The bill reads "tip not included" think this is for the USA tourists and not done in my opinion. Waiters are payed a descent amount of money and they only deserve a tip if they deserve it... Not because they really need it. And having to say sorry for not taking dessert isn't really tip worthy. I would give 3 stars, but they are starters and I hope they take this good advice... There was absolutely no lac of motivation.
The place looks very nice, and the food was tasty, but there isn't much choice on the menu, and the portion sizes could definitely be a bit bigger. The service was excellent the waitor definitely knew what he was talking about and was always very helpful.
