This is a small, very quaint, but very full of character hotel. Of all the hotels we stayed in, all four or five stars, in a five week trip through Europe, this was my favourite. The bells from the Cathedral ring at 9 am, and that might be a bother - if you stayed a week. But for those three mornings we were there I welcomed it as a call to go exploring this historic city. The elevator, well, no, its tiny, the breakfast room, a bit too small, but no matter. What counts is the location, the courtyard, the feel of the place. The rooms were dark and cozy and richly painted, and it feels like this is what it was like 75 years ago. Shutters on the windows, layers of paint, real carpentry. To open those shutters and see that cathedral out the window some 100 feet away, was the highlight of our stay and I feel so lucky we stumbled across this hotel the day we arrived in Strasbourg.
Excellent Location. Nice accomodation. Small rooms. Labyrinthine.
I’m torn about this review because the location is excellent and I found the bed VERY comfortable. However...the room had ants (which I found out while they crawled on me in the night), there is NO soundproofing (hello, neighbors!), the room smelled like wet dog if the windows were closed and yet the windows to our room opened directly into the exterior hallway so people walking by were 2 unimpeded meters from the bed where we were sitting. Awkward.
Pro: Great location, friendly staff, comfortable bed.
Con: Room passed its prime, flimsy shower holder, ants.
Good value for location and atmosphere. Hotel is in a very old building. So do expect stairs. Wonderful visit. Family friendly.
