Reviews from visitors:
The Black Bear Chalet is the perfect mountain retreat! Our stay was nothing short of fantastic. We loved it and left with the most wonderful memories of our time there. No detail was overlooked in this house. The view from the porch in the front is simply spectacular--you can see right up to the top of the gondola. The location is fantastic. It is very close to the base of the gondola, and a short drive to everything else one could want (the downtown area with lots of restaurants, grocery stores, etc.). We were there in the summer, and there are lots of great hiking trails within walking distance of the house. The house itself is gorgeous, spacious, comfortable, and equipped with everything you could need. We loved the beautiful high ceilings and the thoughtful design details throughout the house. We cooked a lot for two families, and we loved cooking in the kitchen and dining together at the huge dining room table. The kitchen is fabulously stocked with all of the cooking and serving items you could want. It has a generous pantry, lots of counter space, and open floor plan in the main living area. The furniture and decor throughout the house is perfect for a mountain retreat. The beds, chairs, and couches were all comfy, and the kids especially loved the bunk room. The master bathroom is especially great. It's huge with the best shower/steam shower ever. We also loved the first floor media area with its big, comfy chairs and couches to snuggle up for movie night. This house has it all—even down to the great assortment of games and puzzles that we enjoyed. We would love to come back in the winter and take advantage of the first floor ski room full of boot driers, benches, and hooks. We love the Black Bear Chalet!
We stayed at Black Bear Chalet for the month of June 2020. We were two couples, with four children between us (ages 9, 6, and twins age 4). We simply could not have been happier with the house. The furnishings are perfect. The kitchen is stocked with everything you could need, right down to a food processors. The views are spectacular. The living room is a perfect place to sit at night after putting the kids to bed. What do I miss most, besides just being in Steamboat? It could be the enormous steam shower in the master bath. It could be the fantastic media room in the basement. Or the seamless service that Moving Mountains provides. (What a great property manager!). Or the super-comfortable bed. The location was perfect for summer -- 5 minute walk to the Thunderhead lift and associated hiking, 2 minute drive to the gondola area, 10 minute drive to Safeway and Starbucks). In winter, it appears that Moving Mountain shuttles you to the lift, which would be about a 1 minute drive. There is a massive storage room with boot driers for everyone. I did not want to leave this house. I kind of want to move to Steamboat and live in this house full time.
