We spent a week at the Ptarmigan Inn with the Philadelphia Ski Club and loved it.
The location could not be better. The Gondola and chair lift are right outside, and complimentary ski/snowboard storage makes getting in and out a breeze.
We got an excellent breakfast every day before hitting the slopes - plentiful enough that we were not hungry until dinner.
All of the staff are cheerful, helpful and professional.
The pool and hot tub makes recovery of sore muscles very pleasant, getting us ready for the next day.
COVID-19 safety protocols were in place, but unobtrusive.
The restaurant and lounge are nice enough that staying in is just fine, but the staff helped find other options when we wanted to explore.
The variety of dining options within a short walk is quite satisfactory.
Having enjoyed the hospitality of the Ptarmigan Inn during ski season, we are considering spending time there during the Summer season, since there is a lot to do then as well.
We had a great stay and you can’t beat the location. An affordable rate for a pet-friendly ski-in/ski-out hotel. You can tell the building is quite dated but they’ve done a wonderful job updating the place. The decor and rooms are modernized and lovely, the customer service was wonderful, hotel staff were all very friendly and welcoming, our room was very clean. We did not eat at their restaurant but enjoyed the complimentary beers upon check-in. Outdoor hot tub and heated pool was great too. Parking was easy and walking distance to many restaurants, shops, markets at the resort. The only complaint is there are no microwaves/coffee maker in the rooms (might be a covid thing?) and lacking outlets, just two open ones on one side of the room. Also the rooms are plenty spacious enough for a table/chairs for eating and general use, perhaps as they continue to upgrade they could add this.
The staff is amazing! Hands down, the best. We stayed here because it’s one of the few pet friendly hotels in Steamboat, let alone ski in ski out. The lodge is one of the original buildings at the resort, so the rooms are small. But it’s a happy tradeoff for being so close to the gondola. You’ll be surprised by how reasonable and good the food is here. Again, the staff makes this hotel. They were more than helpful during our stay. Huge shout out to Larry (the GM) and the front desk staff. Welcoming and cozy from the first step.
Extremely friendly and accommodating staff. They are very swift and quick to accommodate your needs, especially in the restaurant. Our first night we were next to 4 screaming teenage girls, and they moved our room right away and we actually got an upgrade. Does not get much closer to the slopes than this.....highly recommend!
The Philadelphia Ski Club had 42 people stay at the Ptarmigan Inn for a week in March 2021 and we thought the hotel location, the newly renovated rooms, the quaint lobby, and the staff were fantastic. Ptom's restaurant in the hotel easily served all of us for breakfast each morning, getting us out quickly to enjoy the slopes and they also hosted a very nice group dinner for us one night.
