Staff is really friendly and helpful. Complimentary shuttle service from the Inn to the ski base, town, etc. was nice to have, but you can honestly walk to the base if you're motivated. Breakfast included in my room rate was good (they were willing to accommodate my dietary restrictions, which I appreciated). Rooms are very spacious and kept clean. I didn't enjoy the bed, as it was very soft and somewhat lumpy, but everything else was comfortable, felt modern enough, and was tidy. Good bang for the buck, especially considering location, would stay again.
This is by far the best place to stay in Steamboat. 135 year old restored Victorian mansion. Within walking distance to the base and gondola. Staff is amazing! Don't hesitate, book it!
Ok yes it's maybe smaller than you average room but who goes on vacation to sit in the room?!?! It has everything you need in the room to have a great time! The staff is beyond amazing and helpful for any need at any time of day or night! You are in the heart of the city with bus stops like almost outside the front door! Ton's of things that are within walking distance as well! But couldn't imagine not staying there anytime I get the opportunity! Hot coffee and some sort of breakfast is also there in the mornings! Clean, quiet and so nice! They even helped me get to the airport because I did not plan right on getting there! But I can't say enough for this place and what they do to make sure you have a enjoyable, memorable experience!
We spent a week at the Ptarmigan Inn with the Philadelphia Ski Club and loved it.
The location could not be better. The Gondola and chair lift are right outside, and complimentary ski/snowboard storage makes getting in and out a breeze.
We got an excellent breakfast every day before hitting the slopes - plentiful enough that we were not hungry until dinner.
All of the staff are cheerful, helpful and professional.
The pool and hot tub makes recovery of sore muscles very pleasant, getting us ready for the next day.
COVID-19 safety protocols were in place, but unobtrusive.
The restaurant and lounge are nice enough that staying in is just fine, but the staff helped find other options when we wanted to explore.
The variety of dining options within a short walk is quite satisfactory.
Having enjoyed the hospitality of the Ptarmigan Inn during ski season, we are considering spending time there during the Summer season, since there is a lot to do then as well.
We enjoyed a lovely (3) night stay at Chalet Val d’Isere. We shared breakfast with (2) different couples with warm conversation. Of course, breakfast was hearty preparing us for the day’s skiing. Host was very friendly with good suggestions for local restaurants. We will definitely plan to stay here on future vacations to Steamboat! * * * * *
BEAUTIFUL PLACE!!! The rooms are well decorate, clean and nice. People very friendly. We can't wait to come back.
The only thing, in my opinion are the lift tickets, we are learning how to ski, so we didn't need to go to a high mountain, we only want a small slope to practice, we called and they told us there is no other price, $200.00 per person and we are 6 learners. Too expensive in my opinion!

Fantastic place to stay. About a 1 minute walk from the base of the slopes where there is numerous lifts and the gondola. A bit pricy but overall worth the money. There is a heated pool and hot tub. A variety of restaurants within the hotel and a 5 minute walk of the hotel. And they even have a ski and snowboard storage near the base so you don't have to carry it to/from your room. I look forward to returning.
Luxury and awe await your every turn. Go with a big group and have plenty of space for everyone. The rooms seem quite sound proof, too - I didn't hear ANY Snoop after I went to bed! And you have so much available room to get away from that drunk guy who won't stop talking about that time he partied with Vanna White. This place was immaculate and impressive. My own home seems like a south Indian slum, now.
We had a wonderful, though brief, stay at Mariposa. They graciously accommodated our last-minute booking and made our stay so comfortable and pleasant. Also, the breakfast was delicious! We're very much hoping to come back (and for more than one night!)
Great place to stay with excellent amenities. Comfortable and friendly service. Staff extremely helpful with offering recommendations and were responsive to requests for extra items. Kids club was closed and it didn't offer board games/cards or many entertainment options. The room was a bit dusty and required a wipe down prior to unpacking. I would definitely stay again!
Lovely and high class chalet. Such a beautiful experience with multiple family members. You have a hot tub and lift outside your door here in Steamboat. Do it if you can.
The condo is great; Perfect for a family of 3! The layout is nice and worked for our small family. Kiddo loved playing in the pool after spending the day on the slopes.
Has a lot of little extra that make cooking easy, several spices, pots and pans, crockpot and blenders!
Washer, dryer and dishwasher are all nice and quite. Making it nice to run them while you sleep.
The equipment locker is huge! We were able to fit 2 snowboard, 2 adults skies and one set of kiddo skies.
Access to the mountain was great! It’s a true ski in/out with access to the Christi lift to head out in the morning. In the evening an easy ride down the headwall run puts you at the door.
Only negatives:
If you like to unpack, and not live out of your suitcase, the bedroom is small with little storage for your clothes.
The unit could use blackout curtains or shades. The light from the hallway shines into the bedroom window and dining room, making it difficult to sleep at night.
The Black Bear Chalet is the perfect mountain retreat! Our stay was nothing short of fantastic. We loved it and left with the most wonderful memories of our time there. No detail was overlooked in this house. The view from the porch in the front is simply spectacular--you can see right up to the top of the gondola. The location is fantastic. It is very close to the base of the gondola, and a short drive to everything else one could want (the downtown area with lots of restaurants, grocery stores, etc.). We were there in the summer, and there are lots of great hiking trails within walking distance of the house. The house itself is gorgeous, spacious, comfortable, and equipped with everything you could need. We loved the beautiful high ceilings and the thoughtful design details throughout the house. We cooked a lot for two families, and we loved cooking in the kitchen and dining together at the huge dining room table. The kitchen is fabulously stocked with all of the cooking and serving items you could want. It has a generous pantry, lots of counter space, and open floor plan in the main living area. The furniture and decor throughout the house is perfect for a mountain retreat. The beds, chairs, and couches were all comfy, and the kids especially loved the bunk room. The master bathroom is especially great. It's huge with the best shower/steam shower ever. We also loved the first floor media area with its big, comfy chairs and couches to snuggle up for movie night. This house has it all—even down to the great assortment of games and puzzles that we enjoyed. We would love to come back in the winter and take advantage of the first floor ski room full of boot driers, benches, and hooks. We love the Black Bear Chalet!

As far as hotels go, this is one of the best in Steamboat.
I really liked this new Residence Inn! It was very nice and the 2 bedroom was amazing! The bus stop was also super convenient and right next to the hotel... just hop on the red/blue line and you won’t have to worry about parking up at the mountain. The wait isn’t bad either.
The outdoor pool and hot tub was amazing, but my only complaint was that it was super icy on the way out and my dad slipped and sprained his ankle on the way to the pool. This was a bummer because it prevented him from skiing this weekend :(
Other than that, everything was amazing and the staff was super friendly... they gave us a late checkout which made a huge difference and I was able to snowboard on Sunday!
I stay here a coulpe of weeks a year with my ski club for last 5 years. Always clean and quiet. There is a breakfast room with micro wave that we meet in [no so much in covid era], and a outdoor jetted pool.
Short walk to stop for free bus to / from gondola center. This driveway can be icy/slippery with ski boots. I like lodging here, it is good and affordable.
Steamboat ski area and bus enforce covid rules relentlessly, I am 74 so great !!
Great trip in the midst of the pandemic. Prime time location and the gorgeous unit was well appointed and stocked for in-house cooking. Heated pool and hot tub were a treat, would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in Steamboat. Thank you Joey, James, Steve and Delcia!
