We stayed in the Gaslight Inn for two nights as we passed through Seattle. What an amazing place! Bennett is a wonderfully friendly host and the property is beautifully decorated. The handmade breakfast croissants were a wonderful addition. Highly recommend!
My friend and I were walking down the street when we found the Gaslight Inn beautiful, alluring, and charming. We approached the front door to get information about the Inn so that we could recommend it to friends that were coming in from out of town. Stephen Bennett, the owner of this establishment, stopped us to ask us if we had a problem and told us it was private property. There were other people who would walk by to admire the place, but the only difference between us and others is that we were not white. I recommend other guests of color and allies to find alternative places to stay away and for Stephen to take a look at himself and find ways to cure his passive racism as he might as well told us that brown people were not allowed at the Gaslight Inn with the confrontational, aggressive, and indignant way he treated two young brown adults that were interested in recommending a beautiful place to their friends. I pray for this man’s heart.
Didn't even get a chance to stay as I was shooed away from the property after the owner got a good look at my complexion. The front porch says "Gaslight Inn". Curious, I climbed up the steps and read the instructions on the door on how to book a reservation. While I was reading, Mr Bennett aggressively yells from behind "This is private property, is there a problem here?". Me and my friend we're stunned by his disrespect. He even had his friend stand behind him to intimidate us. We said we were going anyway and were curious because this was an Inn and we were finding out how to get a reservation. He stared us down until we left. We felt pretty shaken for the rest of the evening. Now I'm glad I dodged a bullet. Better to not stay in a place seeping with such bigotry and racism.
It was wonderful!!! The owner was such a delight. I like the home feel!. The art in the house is amazing. Just a good experience.
