I had a great stay at Selina Madalena. Located within walking distance to great places to eat, I cannot complain about its location.
I did not have a reservation when I arrived late at night but luckily I was able to book a private room at $40usd/night. As you can see from the pictures attached, the view and the room decoration are worth the price.
Wifi and A/C worked perfectly throughout my stay. The front desk agents are also very knowledgeable about São Paulo and Brazil in general. Do not hesitate to ask them question! They are extremely friendly.
I would definitely recommend anyone to stay here. It was a pleasant experience.
I was so ready to give this hotel 5 stars when I first walked in. I've stayed at a different Selina before and I adore the company and its mission and values. But while the previous stay was excellent despite the iffy neighborhood, my stay at Selina Madalena was iffy despite the excellent neighborhood.
The bathroom stank like sewage the entire stay no matter how well and how often we aired it out. The first room we tried had a broken bed, and the one we settled on still had a few stains on the sheets. More cramped than I expected also. The window in the bathroom had a gap between itself and the edge/wall, so if you set anything next to it, it could have fallen all the way to the concrete outside. One of the two hanging hooks in the bathroom was loose and wouldn't hold anything. The sink was barely large enough for your hands. Stains on the floor. Dust on the shelves where you wished you could put your clean clothes or personal items. Creaky bed. AC unit that didn't move all of its blades. Every little frustration added up fast. Overall, it was not worth the BRL we paid.
However, it has a beautiful view and a gorgeous rooftop terrace, the staff are all friendly, and even with COVID there are still interesting people around. There's even a co working space if you're a working nomad or group of such, for an extra fee of course. The cute library on one of the floors was my happy place.
Yet these good things didn't quite offset the disappointment and sometimes disgust of the stay in the private room in Selina Madalena itself. I am just grateful we grabbed a private bathroom instead of the shared one - from what I understand the "shared bathrooms" go for the entire floor and aren't known for their cleanliness.
Selina always boasts many amenities and that the value of your stay exceeds what you paid. Unfortunately, for this visit and this location, I believe otherwise.
One of the worst experience in hotels (is more like a overstated hostel, really!). We arrived yesterday and we only have problems. Yesterday we received a room with stained sheets and worst view ever (construction site with workers in front of our standard room). They changed the sheet and they offer us a ever worst option (a room with 6 beds), of course we stayed with a horrible view, but we were so tired, we didn’t want to discuss more. Today, we have been without wifi for more than 3 hours. They just tell us, they call a support to solve it and meanwhile they can’t do anything. For a hotel, which primary guest are nomads, who work from anywhere in the world, and they just need a good INTERNET, this situation and answer are absurd, and it’s clear that they don’t think about their consumers.
Spent the last 3 months give or take at Selina in Vila Madalena due to the pandemic and I can just say that the staff has been amazing! The hostel itself is incredible and super well located. Would stay there again without a doubt, and it was hard to leave such a fantastic group!
Incredible!!! I love the place, the people who work there and the location
