This hotel was located centrally to the riots in 2019 2020, tear gas and explosions were very bad on Friday and Saturday nights.
You really need a proper gas mask and googles here .
Hotel and staff were friendly some spoke some English which was welcome. In general if you did not go out between 3PM and 4 AM there it was more or less safe to be there.

Great location especially the roof top we could see the demonstrators, water tanks, cops during the revolution during the Xmas holiday. Hotel staffs are nice and helpful. Rooms a quite small comparing other hotels in the area.
This is no cookie-cutter hotel. It's a retro art-deco hotel with a classic cage lift, nice, if unusual rooms, and a superb location.
It's right across the road from the park, a 10 minute walk to the funicular, 15 minutes to the markets and city centre and a few blocks away, out the back, is the wonderful Lastarria district of restaurants, bars, cafes, markets and buskers.
The staff are superb - friendly, helpful and eager to carry bags, explain the area and book a cab and a restaurant.
Rooms have obviously been converted to squeeze in bathrooms, so they have a very strange shape, and stained glass window doors - almost a work of art. But there's plenty of closet space, and a decent sized safe.
Breakfast was basic, but adequate.
A great choice for location, service and a hotel with character.
