Reviews from visitors:
Castillo Rojo looks out on a triangular square that makes it look like the neighborhood was designed around it.
The staff is very attentive, so that you feel they are looking out for your safety. This was reassuring for me, since there were demonstrations happening during my stay.
The rooms are small but elegant, clean and comfortable. There is a large public space on the second floor with windows facing the square that can easily seat 30 people - they have a complimentary wine tasting in the evenings where you can socialize and make friends or just drink your wine. There is a covered veranda off of the common room with 3 tables and seating for 6.
Lovely hotel. The staff are really nice and helpful. We arrived at 10 am in the morning after a 15-hour flight. We were invited to their lounge on the second floor with complementary coffee tea and fruits. The room was ready after half an hour. The normal check in time is 3 pm and we are happy that no extra charges applied. The staff also offered us take away breakfast after learning that we have an early flight to catch. Everything was great. Bed was very comfy and shower was great. The hotel is located in a chic area with a lot of restaurants and bars . Rooms are quiet . Highly recommended
Super charming building with super charming staff. Our room was beautiful with a comfortable bed and sofa as well as a spacious bathroom. Sebastian was extremely helpful in recommending places to go in the neighborhood. Carlos was great company during the daily wine hours, during which you can sit on the balcony and people watch. The daily breakfast can be ala carte, and was consistently tasty during our 3 night stay. On the cooler days, it was lovely to take it outside.
Downsides, it is a historic building and they can't put in an elevator, so it is a lot of stairs. The water pressure is pretty weak, but I'm assuming that's related to the building to be historic, as well. Since they can't really do anything about those issues, I didn't knock it down a star.
We were looking forward to our stay but it’s been a terrible choice. Impossible to sleep at night due to the incredibly loud noise from outside which I can hear through my earplugs. Not a surprise when the windows are not sealed.
Very basic breakfast.
Staff are friendly though!
I had an overnight at Castillo Rojo for my first night in Chile. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and they responded quickly to my last-minute emails about transfer service, and were able to provide a very good and reasonably priced pickup from the airport.
Despite arriving early in the day, they were very accommodating in getting me to a room (although they also had luggage storage if the room hadn't been ready yet), which was very welcome after the long flight.
The room was nicely appointed, with the caveat that it is a retrofit from a residential home, so there are some work-arounds that have to be allowed for. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.
They had a very nice early evening wine gathering on the second floor which allowed guests to mingle if interested.
The location of the hotel is PERFECT for visiting local sites. It is close to Pablo Neruda's house, the Funicular, and many other Bellavista sites--all easy walks. The neighborhood IS noisy as noted by many others, but that is the trade-off for staying in the middle of the action. Unfortunately, the sound-proofing is a little lacking at the hotel and that is really the only downside of the hotel that I experienced. It was expected going in though due to other reviews, so it wasn't such a big deal for me.
The hotel itself is interesting due to its history and architecture, and there is a nice plaza right out in front. I'd stay there again on a return trip, especially for the great location in Bellavista.
