Bldg. Has a throw back vibe all its own. Loved it. Including the ac/dc and Iron Maiden pinball machines. Staff were professional, nice and room was great. I'll definately²²be back

Cute boutique hotel close to Chinatown and Union Square and a short walk pretty much everywhere else. The hotel staff is helpful and friendly and the rooms are clean and inviting. (although on the smaller side... but that’s SF~)
Just a quick shout out - upon arrival the woman working the front desk was assisting another guest. Rather than waiting by the door, the gentleman working (Jackson at valet I believe) was kind enough to step in to assist. Doesn’t go unnoticed. Thanks for a great stay!

The price also was so good. And especially their staff who valued their customer. All the wants they give it to you. They served great food as well. All in all, I give them a thumbs up! A five-star rating for this hotel. I will definitely visit this place again.

I stayed at the Phoenix for the second time this week and I couldn't have had a better time. First, the staff were friendly AF (thanks Isabel, Jamie and Orlando!) and made sure that we had everything we needed. Every room has a fantastic view of the courtyard which is genuinely an oasis (an overused word to describe hotels for sure, but in this case, you feel like you've gone to Palm Springs). The heated pool allowed for some evening soaking even in 60 degree weather. The rooms were comfortable, stylish, and spotless. While I'm a San Franciscan, this place is one of my favorite go-tos for brunch, dinner on the weekend, or a staycation by the pool.

Beautiful evening on the penthouse roof deck. Amazing views, tasty cocktails and bites. Warm service - safety measures all in place.

As part of our trip, my friend and I stayed at this hotel and were really impressed. The room was huge, with a massive, spacious bed in the middle. There is a bathtub in the shower. This is an outstanding dinner. It is highly recommended!

Loved this place! The room I stayed in wasn’t huge, but it was definitely comfy and worth the $135/night. Loved the bedding, it was so fluffy and cozy! And the bathroom was huge (it may have been a handicap accessible room though...), the shower had two separately controlled shower heads, and marble floors and walls (I think). Very nice. I enjoyed my day.

This was a fantastic hotel! I got the space I really needed, with a view of the blue sky and the beautiful scenery. It was completely understandable, courteous, and respectful of the staff who assisted me on that particular day. I'm overjoyed and grateful that I was able to visit this beautiful holiday hotel. One of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had.

The staff are incredibly helpful and kind. Thank you to Katherine, Maica, Charisma, and Agnes are angels. We stayed here so that our father can conscience from his cancer treatment. They were so ready to help. They made our stay very comfortable, easy since it was a difficult time for our family. Joyce the Director of Operations, we are very grateful for you and your staff.

Far beyond my expectations! The whole building is spectacularly charming! The hotel is made with thousands of surprising decorations and thoughtful objects. Louis from the reception is very helpful. Five stars are not enough to express my gratitude.

The most confused hotel ever. A curios case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Everything is nice on your right side, but the left side leaves a lot to be desired. And I will explain.

Named after the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco. This place is amazing. Stayed there for a week and enjoyed every single bit of it. The rooms are pretty compact but still managed to put everything essential. Was disappointed that we were sharing bathrooms but that wasn't a big deal at all. They were always clean and very well maintained. The breakfast they provided was equally great with a wide variety of options. They have a public area in the back where you can chill and read or just have a drink. This is a classic example of how you can utilize space. Perfectly decorated and nearly maintained. And it's location is very strategic. Close to many of San Francisco's tourist attractions. Great value for your money I totally recommend it.

We loved our stay last week. First off, I have never seen such clean carpets. I always bring slippers when I travel because I'm afraid of putting my feet down especially in hotels. The room we stayed (44) is quaint and absolutely perfect. The location is central and it's in the Mission so there's lots of restaurants to choose from. It's far from the main attractions (museums, fisherman's wharf, etc) about ~25 minutes or so by car , but there's lots to see in the district by walking. What we really enjoyed is the service, top notch! Liza and the rest of the staff are very attentive and hospitable ❤️. We would absolutely come back.
BTW, I was dreading the brown-bag breakfast since there is no buffet and we are in a pandemic. However, we got warm, fresh food served on a tray ☺️.

Visited a friend for an afternoon. Lots of natural light, refrigerator, queen size bed, private bathroom, 1 chair, no desk or table but small counter substitute with coffeemaker. It's clean and attractive with a bit of contemporary style. One brick wall, one muted medium blue, two creamy white. Enough space that three of us could socially distance 10 feet apart.

Overall a great hotel to stay in a prime location. Stayed in March ‘21. Place was clean and staff was friendly. Parking was a bit hard to find though as google maps tells you there are a ton one block away which there didn’t appear to be. Kept driving around until I found the RINCON parking lot about a block away. Paid a bit extra for a room with the bay view and was quite happy with the view. Location appeared really safe as well which was a big plus.

Spend one night at Chateau Tivoli and was absolutely FLOORED by the beauty of this historic bed and breakfast, the excellent customer service, and thoughtful details during our stay. Myself and two other guests stayed at the Lily Langtry Suite, a two bedroom suite in the basement with our own private entrance. Kelly was very accommodating and brought cheese and wine to our suite to respect COVID social distancing (in lieu of the evening wine and cheese social). In the morning, we were served an awesome breakfast! The location is perfect (right next to the Painted Ladies) and I didn't have any problems finding street parking. The entire stay, I felt pampered and safe and would HIGHLY recommend anyone who is staying in San Francisco to treat yourself to this full service bed and breakfast!

It’s been a number of years but this property is my favorite in all of SF. I imagine they kept all of the staff over from its Monaco days. They were always the kindest of the 9 properties I’d hop around the Union Square area...
I do my best to keep this list very up to date. It was last edited in October 2024. If you know of a hipster hotel that should be on the list, let me know. Click here to contact me. Thanks!
