Reviews from visitors:
Quite lovely. I love the rooms, they are quite vintage-y and clean. The food in Hotel 46 is simple for the most part but wonderfully executed. Staying here for a week, so I've had the all day happy hour experience on Monday - pretty good deal! They have something for every day of the week. Pool seems nice, and is open to hotel guests for longer than it is open to the public, so looking forward to that.
I love this place for a number of reasons. It looks like a mansion straight out of the South, with a beautiful brick facade and grand staircase leading to its pillared porch. Inside it's old Hollywood glitz and glam. There's a restaurant that I didn't go to, but it's the heated Olympic swimming pool that makes the courtyard the hotel's centerpiece. It was fun to swim at night in the heated pool and meet a few other guests that were out enjoying the crisp night air. The room I was in was a fairly typical hotel room, nothing spectacular, but it served its purpose and was nice. If you stay here you won't be disappointed by the location since it's in the heart of one of the coolest neighborhoods in San Diego called North Park, which tells you it's just north of Balboa Park, one of the city's main attractions. You're within waking distance of cool bars and restaurants here and only a few miles from the ocean. Come here.
Love this place! We've been here several times. Great staff, awesome pool, nice restaurant with yummy food & drinks and very comfortable hotel room. Family lives close by so super convenient and it helps that they have great deals on rooms!
Overall a nice place to stay. I have lots of hotel experience. I have worked in 5 star, so I stay in 5 star. If you pay for 3 expect it. The harsh ratings come from people who are staying in the wrong place. This is one of the oldest hotels in San Diego. It was just turned over to a new owner during my stay. Expect to see major interior/exterior to renovate the hotel to it's exactly the opening in 1946. With smart room convenience too. If it wasn't for Covid-19 I would experience full room service. But the bar "Hope 1946" was yummy and especially my choice drafts. I look forward to my next stay and check in with Edmund. Or maybe just a leisure Sunday lunch poolside. BTW I don't work here I just love here!
The decor and layout of the hotel is cute. The room was dirty and the hotel room(s) look like it could use some love. The pool is heated but wasn't that warm when we went. It was also a cold weekend so we were bummed it was too cold to jump in the pool. It seems like it would be cool place to visit in the summer time though.
