I stayed here and even extended my stay! The staff are very friendly and hospitable and great at answering any questions about the city. The location is really exciting. I really enjoyed staying in such a historical building and meeting new people. The owner works very hard to make sure all of the guests are happy!! I would absolutely stay here again.
I can’t express enough how impressed I am with the Gaslamp hostel especially during this very challenging pandemic! It’s very clean, literally everywhere in there starting from the front desk to the restrooms and anything in between! The kitchen is big and always clean. Doing laundry at anytime is great. The management is doing great job with social distancing and make sure guests are wearing masks which makes me feel good. The staff are friendly too so my whole experience there is perfect I will definitely come back!
I stayed here for a while. This hostel is kept extremely clean and the staff are great. Plenty do within walking distance and everything else is just a bus ride or Uber away.
COMFY COUCHES IN THE LOUNGE AND NICE STAFF. Maybe they are just under staffed because of covid19. Its awesome for the price you pay and its in a great location VALUE STAY DEFINITELY!!. You have access to a full kitchen. You might not have room for your food in the fridge. Kindly they gave me extra blankets and adjusted the temperature. Just ask them and you shall receive. My stay is/was Jan 13-23. By 10am the coffee pot is cold and I have had to heat up my coffee but I noticed some mornings the cereal and oatmeal would be out early and other times the fridge would be closed and nothing is out at 8 o'clock. They had power maintanence during my stay and they provided headlamp
They gave me an extra towel which was nice and cant fault the staff if someone doodoos in the toilet and forgets to flush and change the sign to let them know its been used and not cleaned yet. They wont follow you around and they do have cameras in all the public/shared areas.
I’m a bit late in posting but this, by far, is the absolute BEST hostel I’ve stayed in. I’ve traveled quite a bit from NYC to the West Coast. I’ve tried so many in SD and in NYC and NONE match the Gaslamp District Hostel!
First the hosts, Maria. Erin and John are awesome!! Together there isn’t anything this trio can’t handle! They are a fantastic team with a wealth experience in this field. The rest of the staff are incredible. They are kind, caring and efficient. They are all willing to go above and beyond to help in any way they can! They are also a lot of fun to be around and hang out with. Thanks Eli, Matt, Kasey, Ben and Nicole! What a fun week!!
Next, the history..Wow, the building is absolutely stunning. It is beautifully appointed and well maintained. The grand staircase when you enter is breathtaking. There all all types of rooms from large private to dorms with bunks. It’s whatever you desire. This option is definitely not offered at most hostels.
Now, if you are looking for clean, the place is spotless!! The staff are always cleaning and everything is immaculate. This is the first hostel I’ve been to where the guests actually wash their dishes. Speaking of dishes. Each guest is provided with their own set to use during their stay to maintain additional safety during Covid. Plus the kitchen is amazing!!
Last location, location, location!! You are in the heart of the one of the hottest areas I. San Diego. You can walk to fine dining, nightlife and shopping. You’re only a short distance to the harbor and an easy ride to the beaches and Coronado Island.
Next time you’re in San Diego def give this hostel a try. You see will not regret it.
