A truly unique place to stay in Rio! The breathtaking views, the charme and beauty of the old mansion and its outstanding design furniture, the calm and idyll of the neighborhood - staying at Mama Ruisa is simply a must if you want to enjoy Rio in style.
a very lovely place to stay in Rio. beautiful view from the hillside of Santa Teresa. the house itself is a art piece thanks to its owner, who has a wonderful taste in interior design. the furniture are all from Brazilian designers - one piece prettier than the other. also breakfast is amazing and very elegantly arranged on your balcony. the pool area is also accessible at night time, which was very inviting due to hot summer nights... the staff is very well informed and gives great tips for restaurants and activities, especially art exhibitions. thanks to the staff i felt very safe and very well taken care of. I'll be back!!!!
Our final stop during our time In Rio was Mama Ruisa - it really felt like a sanctuary nestled between the cobbled streets of Santa Teresa. The staff made us feel like we were at a home, to be honest, we didn’t really feel like guests but more like close friends of the hotel - which to me is far better.
During our trip we fell in love with Brazil and Mama Ruisa was one of the key reasons for this.
We will return to Brazil and ALWAYS stay here, so, if you’re going to Rio and looking for a place to get an elegant taste of Brazil at a very good price I would strongly recommend.

Excellent welcome, friendly and helpfull staff, spacious room, wonderful breakfast, lovely old house beautifully furnished with vintage pieces, and views over the bay of Rio. You may need a taxi to get around Rio but then you'd need that wherever you were staying as it's very spread out if you want to visit all the sites. Some problems with the plumbing but quickly sorted out. Would certainly come back if visiting Rio gain.
Wonderful stay at the Mama Ruisa. Discrete location in a beautifully appointed mansion near the centre of the picturesque Santa Teresa neighbourhood. Staff were always kind, helpful and gracious Breakfast, cocktails and room service were delicious. Special bonus: two resident hotel cats!
