Resort is great hammock set up right in front of your door. I'd recommend ocean front if you can. You get a stand alone room and more space between your neighbors. We also went with breakfast and lunch or dinner included the food was great! Not a buffet, full course individually prepared meals.
One down side is there is not parking on-site. You have to park in the metered parking. It's only 10 pesos an hour from 10-10, but its only 6 hours maximum at a time so you have to keep going out to feed the meter twice a day.
Absolutely amazing! One of the best value hotel/resorts we've ever stayed at. The food was unreal good and the staff was great. It had the perfect balance of rustic and nice for our preference, as they were villas but had air conditioner and private bathroom. We would go back!
All in all not a bad place to stay. My main concern was the "weak" roofing, which made the room at night some what cold. Its rather windy in that area, and i was surprised to see that rooms ceiling is not properly isolated. I understand that it was the idea, to kinda give that local feeling of the condos, but still, comfort counts! While it was raining there was even water in our room. I called it "special effects", but wouldnt wanna try it again. Despite all that, our stay was OK. Breakfast well organized, for dinner we always went to eat out. Good hotel for family trips, but make sure your condo's roofing is not leaking, just in case. Enjoy it!
The beach at Mahekal smells strongly of sewage because human sewage is dumped directly into the ocean and into the ground aquifer. A quick google search will tell you the same.
It is a shame because the Yucatan beaches were once paradise, and the Yucatan's coral reef was one of the great reefs of the world - it’s mostly dead now.
In order to begin the recovery of the Yucatan beaches the Quintana Roo government should first outlaw the direct dumping of sewage into the aquifer and ocean, and then undertake an infrastructure project to finally build a sewer system.
I just went to the beach club. 500mxn the entrance but it includes that money on bar service. Very good service and nice staff. The hotel is lovely even though we did not stay there. We enjoyed the pool and the beach. A quiet club if you are trying to avoid crowds and noisy places
