Reviews from visitors:
It started off great and ended up with us checking into another hotel the same night. Where do I begin.....
First, the ad for the hotel stated that they have available parking. When we arrived, we realized that what they actually mean is that you can park on the street if a spot is available. The hotel provides absolutely no parking for guests. Saying that they have "available parking" is deliberately misleading.
When we went inside, the interior was beautiful. No doubt about that. It was a little odd that in late February there was a decorated Christmas tree still up in the lobby, but we wrote it off to simply being a novelty. I did notice that there was some wear and tear on the building, but given that this is a vintage mansion I was willing to overlook it. The porch area with tables and chairs was dirty and dusty to the point they couldn't be used. I gave the benefit of the doubt that it is winter and this isn't a big deal.
When we checked in with the very friendly hosts we were told that the room we reserved was not available due to "problems with the room". The rooms are thematic but they showed us another room that looked good so again, I gave the benefit of the doubt and we settled in. I noticed that it was hot in the room but it is not unusual for hotels to turn off the AC when there isn't a guest in residence. We noticed in the room that things tended to be dusty and there were cosmetic issues (paint peeling in some areas) but we chalked it up to "ambiance". It was a charming room so we didn't say anything. We turned the AC on and set out for the evening.
When we returned at about 9pm we were floored to find the room to be about 85 degrees. I felt the vent and noticed that the air was blowing hot. We went back to the desk area and I called the 24-hour emergency number for the on-site manager. No answer. We waited for a call back for about an hour and never heard anything. It was so hot in the room there was no way we could sleep and with no help from staff we decided to leave. Without really using the room we put the keys in the drop box and went to a nearby chain hotel with working AC. I assumed the manager would call the next day to find out what happened.
No call. No acknowledgment. No question as to why we would reserve, pay for, check into, but never use a room in their hotel. No response to the emergency call we placed. Basically, they took our money and provided a room that was inhospitable to stay in.
If you want to use this hotel, please note the following:
- No parking available, regardless of what they say in their advertisements
- You may not get the room you reserve. There may be "problems"
- Your AC may or may not work. Looking deeper into reviews, you may also not have working heat or hot water.
- There are little to no amenities. No ice. No cups to drink with. No water or water fountain. There is only an empty mini-fridge. If you want water... bring your own.
- The place could use a SERIOUS deep cleaning. It was not unsanitary, but there was dust everywhere and housekeeping is clearly cursory
- We didn't stay the night we paid for, so I can't speak to breakfast quality. But, from other reviews, if you like coffee and cold pastries, then this is your spot.
The tragedy isn't that we lost $124 and had to pay for a room in another hotel that night. The tragedy is that this place could be incredible and the real destination we though it would be. Just a minimal investment in infrastructure to keep the AC going in all rooms and a reliable on-site manager could go a long way with guests and prevent negative reviews like this one. This is a potentially-beautiful mansion with great themed rooms. It was just sad that it turned out to be a complete lemon.
Wasn't a bad experience, and it had nice decor. My only issue with the place is that they need to update their plumbing. It takes the water at least 10 minutes running non stop for it to get hot when it is cold outside. It is very rarely cold in new orleans, however to lose hot water it sucks. All around it was pleasant experience, and I shall return if I come back to this great city. Boil seafood house is the recommended place to eat for dinner if you love crawfish and seafood, and another broken egg is the best place for breakfast. Both of these restaurants are nearby to the magnolia mansion which is a plus.
This hotel is fails advertising at its finest. These are photos from today. Each room shares air conditioning with two other rooms. There is no staff onsite. Toilet paper holder was broken and the roll was just on the floor. Coffee is Walmart and things are plugged in some scary ways. When we asked to have a refund for the remaking nights, we were told no. Do not stay here.
The rooms are very nice. It's a old home which I love.
Easy to get to
