If you want a Fancy glass Palace don't go here. If you want a feeling of former times and tradition, it is the place to be. The stairs creek, the wood from furniture looks used, it is a little bit smaller than in new hotels. But it has character and is Cozy. I slept well in the beds.
The staff was friendly.
The breakfast was just OK. The egg was on the spot! But coffee was absolutely terrible. Fruit salad was canned. It is nothing about the selection, but the quality.
But yeah, would go there again.
I was here for a concert and definitely will stay here again! The afternoon guy was rad and took his time to entertain me while I was gettin wasted for the show.
I stayed here back in 2010 with family and decided to come back 9 years later to see if this place was as nice as I remembered and if travelling solo this time would measure up. Maybe I’m nostalgically biased, but I have a real soft spot for this hotel and how cozy it feels.
Do the floors creak deafeningly? Yes.
Do the beds squeak every time you move? Sure.
But if I wanted pristine monochrome soullessness then I’d go to a chain hotel. This place has indisputable character and charm which has apparently stood the test of time (for me anyway).
As a solo traveller I had just enough room for all my luggage and belongings, and was kindly provided with extra bedding which was extremely welcome at this time of year (the heating in the room is also a very helpful feature, easily adjusted and great for warming the room and drying laundry).
Basically, if you want everything perfectly pristine, go to a holiday inn, but if you want something authentically charming and cozy, then give this place a try.
The room that we had the first night was a bit small and warm (no ac). It was facing a very noisy street although the window isolated very well... but needed to be closed. We were traveling with a child and next morning we were offered to be upgraded for free to a much better room with an extra bed and facing a quiet backyard. The lady at the counter in the mornings was very nice and helpful.
Excellent hotel, tram runs just outside the hotel to downtown and the main train station. Quaint typical German decor. Rooms are small but comfortable. Breakfast is hearty with a choice of fruit, cereals, breads, cold cuts and cheeses. Also served fresh is your choice of eggs and bacon.
This hotel is far enough away from the busy city centre and yet a 10 min tram ride will get you to the city.
