Pleasantly surprised!
After reading some negative reviews my hopes were not too high for this stay in Marseilles at The Sofitel!
However I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the room, just a simple double bedroom with no view but all was in good order nothing old or tatty! The bed was very comfy and the linens were good quality. The Hermes soaps etc will always get a vote from me, nice fluffy quality towels as well.
Breakfast was extremely good. Easily the best breakfast I ever had anywhere in France. Fresh melt in your mouth croissants as well. Huge buffet spread. Excellent selection of fresh juices and even a crepe machine! I was in heaven.
Thank you for the excellent stay and I will definitely be back!
A first works problem!
Due to Covid you need to book a slot at the pool which I just say is annoying and due to this we did not use - the sun also leaves the pool quite early - so if you are thinking of hanging by the pool all day think again! Saying that you are in Marseilles a FANTASTIC city get out and enjoy it!
We arrived by car and did find it strange that a 5 star hotel does not have a bell boy or even valet parking. It would have been nice to have been greeted and directed to the car park by someone instead of having to run in - queue up to be told how and where to park.

Location is great - a short walk to the port or up the hill to The Corniche.
A good quality option when staying in Marseilles
Catastrophic service. A great example of a hotel that charges high end prices with zero service to justify the cost. 37 degree weather and you need to ask 4x plus for a glass of water with your 22 euro cocktail...they only bring peanuts with the first round... Apparently it's too expensive for the second round. Only to be told by a manger that you need to take the next elevator because they are going up not down... What a joke. Was asked by the person who handled my comments if I was a client of the hotel as if there were different levels of treatment. High end prices with deplorable service. The best view in Marseille unfortunately comes with awful service. Would not recommend. A scandal.
Really good place to enjoy Spa, good restaurant and the staff is really friendly.
And the view from the restaurant to the "Vieux Port" is beautiful. I had a room with view and I didn't regret it.
The breakfast is really good with lot of choice and the food is of good quality.

I visited last year and had a really good time.
Many rooms of the hotel have the best view of Marseille Vieux-Port.
Breakfast buffet has multiple choice.
In all, it's a great place for vacation!
I highly recommend it :)
