Reviews from visitors:
Great location for seeing the Medina and the the Marrakesh culture. Beautiful interior, great breakfast and the staff is amazing and super friendly.
Beautiful inside, white and gray walls with amazing brass wall sconces. Very friendly staff. Make sure you eat dinner there, but you have to let them know early in the day so they can buy the food for that night. Breakfast can be on the roof terrace, which I highly recommend. This is definitely a great place to stay!
Overall we had a pretty 'meh' experience here. The hotel presents itself as a high end hotel, but came up short in a number of ways. There are always people hovering around trying to provide good "service", but the actual service left something to be desired: they offered to escort us to and from dinner outside the riad, but then kept mentioning how we were choosing not to have dinner *at* the riad, and then one day they simply decided not to walk us to dinner. Similarly, the furnishings/etc are very high-end-looking but then when you look a bit closer it's not all it seems: the bed was quite stiff and there was mold on the cushions on the roof deck. I think there are much better options in Marrakech (for instance: we had dinner at Riad 72 which seemed way nicer, much better staff, way better food, similar price range), I just wish we hadn't booked through a travel agent and found one of those ourselves.
Prestigious Riad in the heart of the old medina of Marrakech city, stay in, you will enjoy it for sure, to recommend!
We had a very unsafe experience here. We arrived to Marrakech with our guide on his last day. As he left us in the evening, he made a reservation at the Nomad and advised us someone from the Riad Joya would take us to and from the restaurant. When it was time to leave for dinner, the Riad Joya employee, Noor, refused to take us and instead, gave us a map to find the way. This was doable as the surrounding souks were still bustling and we could ask our way around. However, on the way back (8pm), we took a wrong turn and ended up very lost. My husband and I were repeatedly told wrong directions by young locals attempting to get money. We ended up in a deserted alleyway surrounded by 6-7 Men grabbing at my husband’s wallet and threatening us. We gave up the money we had and ran, finally making it back to the Nomad restaurant where the hostess called Noor from the Riad. He arrived, very annoyed, and escorted us back. when we relayed our story, he literally laughed in our faces and told us “this is impossible in Marrakech...except one other time..” We asked whether our guide had asked him to escort us to and from the restaurant, and he said “yes, but I only do that when I have time” and he is not responsible for what happens outside his hotel. Perhaps that is correct, but being laughed at and told we were lying on what was a harrowing experience, is terrible service. Obviously, the situation could have happened to anyone in any place, but what was appalling was the reaction of th Riad Joya. In addition, I noted another review back in 2016 indicating another unsafe situation dealing with Noor - and here it is happening again. There are many beautiful riads in this area - please stay where the staff is more concerned with their guests’ safety. And for that, we strongly advise not staying at Riad Joya.
