What a great find outside of Lucca...great restaurant with delicious desserts and amazing tomato sauce over picci!
A beautifully restored Tuscan villa standing in gorgeous grounds about 2 miles from the centre of Lucca. Bedrooms are clean and nicely decorated. Standard rooms are not huge, but large enough for a couple who will only be sleeping there. Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is buffet style and generous, with cereals, fruits, yoghurts, cold meats, cheeses, pastries, cakes, breads, croissants etc. The only hot options were bacon and scrambled eggs. Breakfast is taken in the spacious and tastefully decorated breakfast room, or outside on the patio if you wish. The basement restaurant is very tasteful and the chef's can be viewed working through a large window to the kitchen. Food is good, and reasonably priced. Being located 2 miles outside of Lucca, either a car is needed or a taxi (£21 into Lucca, £13 back from Lucca at October 2019 prices). There is one small, family-run trattoria within a 10 minute walk, and no shops selling food or drink. So it's a great hotel let down by it's remoteness.
The owners are super friendly, clean and nice rooms. The breakfast was very cute, luckly we were only a few so it was enough. The Wi-Fi was steady and fast. For my taste, the hotel is a little too antique-style.
To be honest I was expecting a lot more from a 4 star hotel. The sanitary are old and in ruined, some important things are missing, the lobby and the corridors are more warmer than my room (AC set at max hot possible) and last but not least the breakfast is really poor. The people working there are nice and helpful.
