View is the only good thing.
I booked the Deluxe Double Room at the Montcalm Royal London Hotel for a two night stay for my partner’s birthday. I paid for a special package which included champagne, truffles and rose petals. Upon entering our room, we were unfortunately welcomed by a dead spider which was on our bed. Please see attached photographs. This was the start of a host of problems we encountered during our stay at this hotel. After unpacking our bags we checked out the facilities in the hotel. When we returned to our room, our key cards were not working. It transpired that the battery within the cards was faulty. We walked to reception to inform the staff of the issue, and we were provided with another key card. This card also did not work, which meant we had to go back down to reception for a second time. We were told that maintenance would attend to resolve the issue. We therefore had to wait a while outside of our room until maintenance arrived. We then pre-booked our time slot to use the swimming pool and jacuzzi on the next day at 1330 hours. We ordered our bath robes and slippers at reception on day one, however we did not receive these. A whole day had passed without these, causing ourselves the stress of being late to our time slot, and potentially losing or reducing our time. They arrived just before our slot. We returned to our room in the early evening on the second day, having left the cleaning light switched on, only to find our entire room untouched by the cleaners. There were dead rose petals all over the room, our empty champagne bottle, ice container and glasses were still on the table, our sheets and towels were unchanged and our bins were not emptied. We informed reception of our unclean room and we were told that the cleaning staff had gone home. We were then upgraded to a Junior Suite on our second night. We wanted to use the bath, only to find that it had a broken bath plug, which made having a bath obsolete. For a 5* hotel, the service we received was extremely disappointing, especially considering the amount of money I paid during a financially difficult time as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
My stay was good but I left some shirts in the wardrobe but they refuse to send them to me (I offered to pay postage) but they said I have to come collect them myself, which is not ideal as I live far from London and we are in a pandemic.
I expected a better service from a 5* hotel.
My mother is currently staying here, and is beyond impressed with the care she is receiving. The front desk staff (a gentleman from Bulgaria, a lady from India), is extremely professional and down-to-earth. Would highly, highly recommend.

Amazing hotel, amazing pool ,jacuzzi and spa facilities! Staff were helpful, friendly, and professional and their approach to measures to keep people safe during covid were great, and clear instructions to follow throughout the hotel, including the personal Protective pack they gave us upon checking in! Will definately return in the future!
