Reviews from visitors:
This is the most beautiful accommodation I have stayed in. I came here when I visited Tokyo back in 2014 and I still think back on my visit to Hotel Mume, it was truly a wonderful stay. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, the rooms are beautiful and the breakfasts are so delicious and fresh. If you are able to budget to stay at Mume, I would greatly recommend it, it's such a lovely stay. It's also quite conveniently located, being closeby to amenities and within a beautiful neighbourhood.
I've come across Mume now as I plan my next trip back to Japan and I hope to stay there again!
Hotel Mume, what a special place. We stayed at this wonderful boutique hotel this past July and it was completely amazing. What wonderful hosts, and beautiful spaces throughout the hotel. Much thought and care goes into making guests feel welcome. Their breakfasts are also incredible, and even for vegans like myself. You can even relax in their lovely salon where you and have a drink, and even work quietly if you so desire. The hosts are incredibly helpful in suggestions for sightseeing. You won't find a better hotel in Kyoto.
Heaven on Earth in Kyoto!
Words can not express how fortunate we were to stay at Hotel Mume!
From the moment we made the reservation, then entered the discreet red door off a quiet side street, and made friends with everyone who loves what they do at Hotel Mume, we were filled with an dreamy experience where every need was anticipated, met and exceeded with a smile. A deep mutual respect for one another transcended our relationship with all who enjoy their role at Hotel Mume with the owner forging a passionate vision that would be impossible to duplicate.
Absolutely the best! We stayed for 4 nights in early November. The owner and staff are incredible--friendly, attentive, helpful. The hotel is lovely with ground floor reception and dining room/bar overlooking the river. Each floor just has two rooms and our room facing the small quiet street was very nice with a king size bed and nice antique furnishings. The bedroom was a reasonable size with a nice bathroom (including the state of the art toilet which was heated and automatically opened and flushed upon entering the toilet room). The rooms on the rear face the river and I think some have balconies. Breakfast was great--especially the flexibility of having breakfast until 11.30. We chose to get out early to beat the crowds and tour a site or two and then return for a late breakfast which really served as a brunch, rejuvenate and then do an afternoon tour and then return for the free cocktail time from 5 to 7 pm. The staff helped us with maps, transportation and suggestions. The owner was so helpful--she ensured that our box of extra clothes and items that we did not need for the rest of the trip was boxed and shipped off back to the US (which we just received and remind me that I failed to write a review). The location on a side street filled with antique stores but only a few block for the main Gion area and the subway was very convenient. I would love to visit again and stay for a week--Kyoto is one of those places where you can visit a week a year for the rest of your life and not see everything.
Amazing, adorable small hotel with great location. The staff is extremely helpful and highly knowledgeable. Top hotel experience we've had during our 2 weeks in Japan. Would love to stay at Mume over and over again!!
