Worst soundproofing hotel EVER
Ruined my First Birthday Experience in The Upper House
I stayed one night with my friend here for my birthday celebration. Haven’t past 12 yet and we played our music for the mood.
At first, we played with the speaker which PROVIDED BY the HOTEL, but the attendant told us about next door complaint about sound harassment.
Then we change to play music by the TV SETS, PLUS we have already turn to a real SMALL volume which just 10.
Still got complaint...this ruins my birthday experience of the hotel real bad.(We have played music in this way in various 5 stars luxury hotel, but we have NEVER and EVER receives any complaints at all before...EVEN there’s people living in next door...which means the SOUNDPROOFING of THOSE HOTELS does a really good job)
Second, the first day when we arrived, we’ve have confirmed that we could have late check out by 1 in the other day. However, we received immediate notice around 12 told us we NEED TO CHECK OUT ASAP because of the specific reason. I don’t understand why they arrange time so rush that me and my friend didn’t even have spare time to pack up stuff...
Which brother me is that:
1. The hotel itself provides a nice speaker and we’ve been told that it’s loud when we use it. Hence we’ve change to play by TV Sets with volume 10, we still received complaint. Is there consisting a construction problem of bad soundproofing? Then, why the hotel itself still providing a speaker?
2.Is there any other smoother way to solve the problem instead of keep directly telling us about the complaint? (For instances, changing us to a room that has less people around us etc?) Are there problems between the customer serving of a luxury hotel?
3.Should the front desk inform us earlier after receiving we’re unable to have late check out instead of informing us in last minute?
Much concern is that, is this a nice customer service that could be happening in a luxury hotel?
In a nutshell, I may not stay in the same hotel for my next birthday celebration. It really ruins my birthday this year by staying in The Upper House.
Exceptional stay for our Wedding!
The staff at the Upper House went absolutely above & beyond to make our stay perfect. They knew ahead of time we would be staying for a few days during which we'd be getting married - when we arrived there was a tray of beautiful desserts and a lovely gift with a handwritten note wishing us a happy wedding.
The note and gift alone would have been enough to make me feel like the staff really cared, but what really blew me away was that on the day of our wedding, with all the chaos and commotion of getting ready and to the ceremony on time, I forgot to bring my medication. We were already celebrating and enjoying dinner with friends by the time I realized this. My husband offered to go to the hotel but I thought it'd be terrible for either of us to have to miss a chunk of our wedding day so I called UH. They had someone from the hotel search our room, find my medication and deliver it to us at dinner. It really saved our day and I'm very thankful for it!
Attentive staff and killer views at this discreet hotel- super relaxing staycation in Hong Kong. However, I'm disappointed that Upper House uses cheap amenities (with body wash, shampoo, and hand sanitizers made in china), considering it is listed as a 5-star+ hotel. Also, the auto sensor in the room turns off too quickly and cuts off all lights and TV. I got a serious, big bruise when I had to get up from the bathtub and walk on a slippery wet floor to turn back on the lights.
Tried Upper House for a staycation on a 24 hour suite with dinner package. Suite was very big with lots of nice comfortable furniture and modern technology. Set dinner was nice although would be good to get some more options. Staff very helpful and attentive. A la carte breakfast has a lot of choices. Also nice library lounge with lots of heavy books to check out as well as a nice tea menu. No swimming pool at this location however has a gym.
So-So service so-so food
Summary:
--View from restaurant: 6/10 (We were not window seated but the distanced sea view was nice)
--Renovation/Design: 4/10 (Simple and clean.. Personal opinion the isle from entrance to reception resembles a Church in a negative way, nothing to comment more on. Maybe it’s the designer’s intention to recreate the religious atmosphere)
--Atmosphere: 4/10 (Tables are close and ones’ conversations can be heard)
--Service: 3/10 (Receptionists are cold. See the reviews I had written for other 5-stars Hotels restaurants and Michelin restaurants.)
--Food [comment from Tea set perspective, definitely not from lunch and dinner perspective since the level of attentiveness and effort are different] (Taste 3/10 Plating 2/10 Ingredient 2/10)
Overall comments:
--If you are a local HKer, I recommend here for friends gathering. View is nice. You have better choice for family gathering and for a date. Would choose other comfy & relaxing environment for wine & dine, chit & chat and romance.
--If you are a tourist, see my comments above, it’s applicable. I would give you a headsup that the cold service here is not representative for the good or even standard service HK hotels provide.
--If you had been to quite a few Michelin 3 stars restaurants in HK and around the world like me, this is not a place that you will come again. However if I have time I will try their lunch/dinner in order to give more holistic comments.
Details:
--For Savories: See photos. No comment. (See the reviews I had written for other 5-stars Hotels restaurants and Michelin restaurants)
--For Sweets: See photos. No comment. (See the reviews I had written for other 5-stars Hotels restaurants and Michelin restaurants)
Like me, if you are to kill the 1-2 hours after shopping in Pacific Place and before dinner, you can come here for tea.
