Reviews from visitors:
I had the best staycation at The Publishing House. It’s in a prime location in the city, towards the end of the West Loop restaurant row so it’s quiet but accessible to some of the best food in the city. As for the lodging itself, it is so clear that the powerhouse women running pay attention to detail in caring for their guests. Everything is well thought out - from the design, to what’s provided in the room, to the common areas. It’s such a beautiful space.
The owner is extremely gracious, check in is earlier than most around 2pm and checked out at 12pm Sunday. So I feel like I got full use of the space. Also, there’s fresh daily made pastries and the breakfast that’s included each morning is actually really good. You’ll have the standards and then a choice of a savory entrees or sweet entree (or get both!)
I’ve told a lot of my friends about The Publishing House because it’s a true gem in the city.
My partner and I got very lucky. We snagged a Publishing House room day-of on one of the deal sites after considering other boutique hotels; any other spot would have been a mistake. Great vibe, sort of the best of a hostel in the common spaces (lots of little nooks and spaces to sit and read or talk) and the best of a hotel in the actual room. We stayed in the Second City room (they are all named instead of numbered), great set up, dope bathroom with heated floors, good layout for our luggage and stuff, bright modern lighting, fun decor, the bath products are really nice, all around zero complaints (this wasn't a room with a view, but we didn't mind that). Love how they handle everything (breakfast reminder, checkout, etc.) via text, very chill, they know how to run a hotel in 2021. The breakfast setup (we both had the smoked salmon and soft scrambled eggs on hearty toast, yum) and self-serve french presses during the daytime were really fantastic. Plus, we got to play the piano. Was a truly lovely, warmly memorable time for us. No question, will stay again.
A cozy, warm stay in the middle of frigid winter cold. Amazing food, little touches of luxury all around, but still feels like home! Come here to unwind & relax! The best place I've stayed in Chicago. Location was great. Out of the hustle and bustle but just barely. Easy access to downtown!
It was quite honestly one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed in. And the fact that the owner is the one that greets you, gives you a tour and texts you to see if you’re coming to breakfast is amazing!! There were other guests that hung out at dinner time with Kimberly and watched Netflix in the common area, it was absolutely lovely. Will absolutely be coming back!
If you are looking for a quiet, cozy, and warm get away this is the place to stay. From the extremely comfortable bedding, to the perfectly placed reading nooks, they thought of everything to make you feel at home away from home. It’s an old building that they turned into this adorable bed and breakfast. There is a common area upstairs with a fireplace you can nuzzle up to on the couch and have some wine or coffee while you relax. The staff are extremely hospitable and friendly. Also, let’s not forget the delicious breakfast and fresh made coffee they provide for you in the morning. I went with my boyfriend and we loved it dearly. We cannot wait to return! Highly recommended for anyone trying to get away with a significant other or a friend or two who want to be in a part of the city where there’s plenty of restaurants and bars and a couple shops nearby too.
