Reviews from visitors:
This hostel is terrible, first off i should’ve listened to the reviews, when i first got there it wasn’t that bad but when i got to my dorm it the bed sheet had stains and holes, the guy in charge gave me a blanket to sleep with that smelled horrible!! I booked it for two nights but tried leaving the the first hour i got there but all other hostels were booked or it was too late to book so i stayed there, and i had to sleep on my bags because i didn’t want to imagine how dirty the pillow was seeing how everything else was! I tried getting my payment for the second night back as i was leaving they didn’t return it but i was glad to just be gone, do not stay there!! I do not recommend it for anyone
The place was horrible. It was not clean. The room we we're in had 12 beds which is okay because we chose to be in one but the air conditioner wasn't working. There was one table fan which a girl pointed at her all the time. The property is good and the staff is good but it is not maintained well. I would not recommend. You can go to the mermaid downtown istead. Much better.
Clean, but everything else was no good. Room was in the middle of a staircase, so you had to go through to get to the top floor. Shared bathroom was in their eyes to share it with a dorm room where we had to go from the 1st floor to the ground floor, through the doormroom where people was sleeping (we had a private room with shared bathroom). Staff was no help at all, wasn't informative and acted like they didn't care about anything, and that problems was the guests responsibility, and not theirs.
I rarely write a bad review but this AirBnB is the worst place I've ever stayed in.
Bathroom was filthy with mildew in shower and bathroom walls. Leftover items from previous guest were left in the bathroom. Host was unaware of our arrival and hastily rushed to "clean" the room. Evidence suggests that that didn't occur.
Communication was via WhatsApp which is fine. We received a Google Maps address which was incorrect and directed us to a house down the road. The only reason we were able to find the hostel was because the WhatsApp account of the person who messaged us had a picture of the hostel's dog as their background which allowed us to figure it out once we walked back down the road and saw the dog through the fence.
Once we arrived it was not clear who was actually working at the hostel and there was no record of our booking. Eventually someone spoke to the correct person who figured out that the booking was made via AirBnB which must not be a normal channel for them to receive bookings.
I am unsure whether Adolfo owns the hostel or is just operating it for another party but either way I have a few suggestions:
- Update the AirBnB listing with the correct address and business name so that guests can find the accommodation. The map provided via WhatsApp was to the wrong house in the street. Make all information simple and available in the original AirBnB listing. It will make everyone's life easier.
- Fix the booking system. I understand that hostels take bookings through many different online systems so this may be difficult but not impossible.
- Clean the room properly. This goes without saying.
Finally, there were BED BUGS all over the walls. This is completely unacceptable. I have never seen that in years of travelling and countless hostels. That needs to be fixed ASAP and all guests made aware. The manager at the time - unsure whether this was Adolfo or not - was very blasé about the issue which I thought was extremely irresponsible. My partner and I alerted them at 11PM to which they responded that the hostel was fumigated earlier today which is likely why they were coming out of the mattress. They offered to give our money back which was good but other than that the overall manner of the management was very disappointing.
Overall, I would NOT recommend this hostel/AirBnB. To all guests I recommend reading the Google Reviews for the business Arrival Hostel prior to booking.
Excellent place with great staff and good atmosphere. Even the 12 people dorm is comfortable. Has swimming pool, wifi works fine and kitchen is well organized
