Reviews from visitors:
We spent 4 nights in the Royal room. We arrived at night on the fast train from Paris, and took a taxi to the house (we had luggage), which cost 10 Euros. Overall, the room was nicely furnished (it looks like in the photos, but no flowers in the "fireplace") and very clean. The bed was comfortable. The (rain) shower was great and the towel warmer definitely a nice touch, especially because the towels are not changed as they are in hotels. I am fine with that and certainly appreciate the environmental aspect, but it was misleading to have a sign on the sink saying that if you want fresh towels, to leave the used ones on the floor. I'm adding a photo of the sign.I also recognize that this is a guest house and not a hotel. But that means that if you want anything other than a shower gel and liquid soap, like conditioner, hand cream, solid soap, and other amenities that hotels provide, bring your own. Though the website said the room had a coffee maker, it did not, but I'm a tea drinker, anyway, and when I told Georges that an electric kettle would suffice, he bought a new one that day and put it in the room with some mugs and tea bags. (I wish I had told him on the first day!) It would be a nice addition to the guest house to have a tea/coffee corner. Georges was most accommodating about my dietary needs at breakfast and purchased some items special for me, which I really appreciate. Breakfast was nicely served, and quite satisfactory. One of the pleasant aspects is sharing a table with some of the other guests, so that you meet interesting people every day (we had different people each day, so some must have stayed just one night). The house is about a 15 minute walk to the station, which, without luggage, is quite comfortable, and since we made day trips on two of the days, worked out well. There are also a couple of bus lines pretty close and a tram line a few blocks away. The neighborhood is not very nice. There are many shuttered up stores, and some rather seedy looking establishments on that street. (I'll add some pictures.) Those that do open, other than some laundromats, are not likely places a tourist would want to go to. It is quite a run-down area. I don't think if I were a woman traveling alone I'd feel comfortable walking back at night to the house. Be aware that there is no sign indicating where the house is, other than the house number. Georges informed us of this in email only shortly before we arrived, and we didn't even get to see the message until after we arrived. Fortunately, he was looking out for our taxi (I had told him our estimated arrival time). Also, be aware that if you need to check in at night, there is an extra fee (20 Euros; we arrived at around 11:30 pm). The check-in hours are noted on the website. I don't know if there are any rooms that are wheelchair accessible - I only saw rooms that are up a flight of steps. Overall, I would recommend this guest house, but be aware of what to expect.
Love this amazing guest house! Wonderful service, beautiful rooms... walking distance from the city center.
Kudos to his owner/host, George!! Magnifique!
We had a wonderful stay at La Parenthèse at the beginning of July. This charming and characterful maison d’hôte has recently opened and Georges and Corinne have clearly taken a lot of effort over the decor. It’s situated in a great location just a few minutes walk from the Marché des Capacins. Georges is a friendly, helpful and attentive host and ensured we had everything we needed for our stay. Our room ‘Marchand du Vin’ was spacious, quiet, spotlessly clean and the bed big and very comfortable. Georges provides a delicious fresh breakfast in the morning. All in all a perfect base from which to explore Bordeaux and we hope to return again. Thank you for your hospitality Georges!
We had a very good stay in the Royal room, in a magnificent establishment full of charm. Georges our host was very helpful and particularly welcoming! The breakfast was delicious
You do not feel at home at the Parenthèse des Capucins, it's better than at home! We were in the romantic room with refined decoration that invites you to rest and serenity. We only manage to leave the bathtub to reach the bed, oh how comfortable!
At breakfast, we have the right to an anthology of homemade treats by the daughter of our host, difficult to be reasonable!
The icing on the cake, the very identity of the house is our host, George, whose sympathy and humor come to embellish a stay already very pleasant. It will show you charming corners, the house is ideally located in the center of Bordeaux.
