Reviews from visitors:
I had the pleasure of working with Sara and the staff at the South Congress Hotel this past Friday for a wedding reception. It's a beautiful space with plenty of room for a ceremony and reception. Sara was organized and very helpful throughout the event. As a bandleader, I appreciated the ease of load in/out for our team. Looking forward to working with this fine venue again soon.
Had an amazing brunch here. Very reasonable price for make your own mimosas with your choice of bottle of champagne. Entrees we tried were all delicious. Service was friendly and prompt. Nothing more I could ask for
My wife and I spent one night in Austin, staying at the South Congress hotel. We were offered the Congress Suite for $435, which would include parking. We were also informed about the $20 amenity fee, and the 17% city tax. We decided it might be exciting to do that for one night, but boy were we mistaken.
Our room was nothing to talk about. The furniture was what I would call eclectic cowboy, and the bed was so soft and uncomfortable that neither of us could sleep the entire night. There was not space on either side of the bed for us to place our sleep apnea equipment, and the lighting was so poor that we had to stand right under a lamp in order to be able to read. Oh, and I should mention that when we lay in bed and booked at the ceiling all we and see what’s the concrete for the floor above. There was no attempt to decorate or to make the room more warm in feeling.
Imagine my surprise when I got home and saw the the charge to my credit card was $725. We arrived around 2 PM on a Saturday afternoon and departing at about 8 AM on Sunday. That amount of money for less than a one day stay seems to me ridiculous, particularly when the hotel itself was not that impressive.
NOPE. TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! This place is NOT worth your time or your business. Came here to tour as a possible wedding venue and met with Sara on 02/13 @ 2pm. It was an excellent tour and Sara answered all of my questions. At the end of the tour she said we were free to continue to look around and to go to the front desk to validate our parking ticket. After wandering the space for about 5 minutes and taking some photos, we went to the front desk to get our parking ticket validated. Woman at the front desk asked if I had used and of the services at the hotel which I said no. She then proceeded to say "parking is $4 per hour for you then" in a holier than thou tone and a roll of the eyes-in front of my fiancé and three friends. Once I explained I toured with Sara and she told me to come to the desk to validate parking she threw a validation ticket at me. Wow. Nice service right? Looks like I will not be holding my wedding here because the staff clearly does not know how to behave in the hospitality industry. I was the ONLY ONE at the front desk-there wasn’t a line-she was not doing anything- but let me tell you she acted like I was the BIGGEST INCONVENIENCE. I wouldn't recommend spending the money here to stay, let alone thousands for a wedding to have my guests interact with that attitude? No thanks. Hope this shows that even if the space is great one interaction can definitely leave a bad taste. Clearly this women should not be the face customers see as it sets the tone when arriving and leaving. I would say 0/10.
I stood at South Congress Hotel back in December and while the location is ideal and interiors well designed there was a lack of attention to detail around Covid precautions that was really disappointing. I was told housekeeping would never enter my room, only to find they had come to restock the minibar and move glassware around while I was gone without consent. Then, despite having to make timed reservations for the gym, staff was never around to let me in and the gym itself was dusty and greasy, like it hadn't been cleaned in days. Hopefully they've sorted themselves out since then but if you are a detail-oriented traveler this may not be the hotel for you.
