Reviews from visitors:
My parents and brother have stayed here on multiple occasions when visiting me in Austin. The owners take great care of the property and it's in really good shape and a neat place. It's within walking distance to Hyde Park restaurants, UT or North Loop bars and restaurants. Also, very close to Home Slice's 51st street location, which is the first or second most popular pizza restaurant in Austin and has stayed busy through the COVID-19 pandemic. I highly recommend staying here and I walk past this property on a regular basis with my dogs and it's always safe and well maintained. The rooms are large and there is plenty of space, beds are comfortable.
It was quaint, comfortable and charming. The Stricklands are wonderful. The fireplace by the pool was nice as well as the jet tub to relax in.
Okay, first of all I must say that Mr and Mrs Strickland we're amazing hosts. They treated us with care and respect as if we were family. If you like historical houses you must see this place. The hardwood floors on the first floor or original White Oak. They have a parlor set up, they have a formal dining room set up. The place is amazing and appears to be historically correct. There is a wrap around porch with comfortable chairs and small tables for visits with friends. The rooms are very comfortable and relatively sound proof. They have spent a lot of time and money restoring this home. Even if you don't stay there please, walk in the front door and speak to either of them. They will gladly give you a tour of the entire facility. They have a pool, and a spa that is in a secluded Alcove. There is an outdoor fireplace by the pool that they always have stock with firewood ready to go. Seriously, if you like historic houses and b&bs and are in downtown Austin you owe it to yourself to see this amazing place.
Strickland arms is truly a hidden gem in the heart of Austin! The house and grounds are amazing and the hospitality was second to none!
Jessica went above and beyond to make our trip special and romantic! Lastly the Lady Mae is well worth every penny for this beautiful and fully decked out suite.
I was really disappointed. It was somewhat junky especially on outside. It wouldn't take such to pick up empty bottles or rollup old water hose or throw away old empty plant containers. These were just some of the things that had been laying around the property for some time. The bathroom was in a tiny... and I mean tiny closet. The pillows were horriable. There was no place to plug in your phone that would reach nightstand. We did find one extension cord wrapped around bed post but did not work. The plug for cable was falling out of the wall and had been taped with layers of tape trying to hold it in the wall. Peeling walpaper, what looked like black marker on the sheets.
These are all what might seem like small things to most but for what we paid it was disappointing.
The couple that owens the place is super nice! I do understand the home is an historical home we did not expect perfection. Unfortunately we will not stay there again.
