Reviews from visitors:
Came here instead of camping solely to use the sauna. They closed it earlier than advertised, then I figured. Oh well ill have a nice shower. No warm water anywhere in the building. Room is alright but in need of a deep clean. Staff were nice just bothered I wasted $41 and would have Had better facilities at a campsite
It was a toss up between one or two stars for this accommodation, however the rating "OK" felt far to generous for the below par offering. I favour backpacker accommodation, as long as it's clean, it's somewhere to sleep, nice and simple, but Fort Street Hostel is anything but clean. I booked a bed in a 4 bed dorm and the smell was overwhelming, probably not helped by the tiny room size and lack of ventilation, however the bathroom has not been PROPERLY cleaned in months. A wipe over between guests, does not cut it (if they even did that). Friends of mine were also staying in the hostel and their ensuite was equally below par. I booked in for two nights, I didn't stay 1. Walked away from my money and stayed somewhere else.
I have been to many hostels in Auckland city and this one is by far the best in my opinion. Why ? When I first arrived in New Zealand this is the place where I was able to meet great people from all parts of the world and also by fate travelled and worked with them later on in the South. Fort street hostel is in a good shape compared to many other hostels I’ve seen. The common room is spacious and the kitchen is located on the rooftop which is pretty cool. Morning coffee with a view at the harbor in the morning Yes! The staff are nice and helpful and they smile! not like a fake smile I’ve seen so many times. Of course show respect and the same will apply. Handy tips : best shower? is located lvl3, left side last one on the right. You’re welcome
Nice people... Great location... Cost friendly... Best place for specially students
Nice and friendly staff at the front desk. However the room it'self was a bit expensive for what we got. A double room with a private bathroom was TINY. It looked like nothing had been wiped down for a while. The bedding and towels / bathroom seemed clean enough but the roof had some obvious black mould growth and the skirting boards were dusty ect
